Citizen protection minister visits Zakynthos, promises to solve problems
NewsroomCitizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrisochoidis was on the Ionian island of Zakynthos on Saturday to resolve problems concerning the understaffing of the island's police headquarters and other emergency services.
"Our resolve is to restore Zakynthos to normality as regards security and fighting crime," the minister said after a series of meetings with the heads of the island's security forces to discuss their problems held on Saturday morning.
"I am aware of the problems and am here, once again, in order to solve them," Chrisochoidis said, stressing that Zakynthos deserved attention as it was the country's fourth-largest tourist destination.
He said the visit will focus on fire protection, as well as reinforcing the island's police force with an additional 20 officers from September, bringing back 10 police officers currently detached to Evros and other islands. He also announced a plan to fight crime, especially organised crime.
