"What is important is basically our national interests" stated government spokesperson Stelios Petsas in an interview with SKAI radio on Friday adding that it is clear that the US do not want tensions in our region, particularly between NATO state members as Greece and Turkey.

He said that the Greek government's strategy is clear, "We have the international law on our side, our allies and the power to do whatever necessary to protect our sovereign rights. Our intention is to resolve the pending issues because it is in the interest of the countries of the region and we will continue to do it" referring to the agreements with Italy and Egypt on the demarcation of the maritime zones. Issues as the demarcation of the maritime zones should be resolved with both sides agreement, if there is no such agreement then there is the international body, the Court of The Hague".

Referring to the discussions with Albania, he said that there is a very good cooperation and expressed the wish to have news soon.

On the pandemic he said that the number of incidents we see today are much lower than those the scientists expected for this period. "What we must to is to be ready for the culmination of the incidents in November that will coincide with the influenza. We have given instructions for vaccinations against the influenza in order to avoid a twin coronavirus and flu outbreak in the period October-November.
