Mitsotakis: We will not change strategy, we will remain moderate and responsible

New Democracy (ND) leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his pleasure over the election results, speaking to his shadow ministers on Monday.

"We have every reason to be satisfied, everything shows that we will elect eight MEPs and that ND is the party with the greatest gains in the European Peoples' Party, while the EPP considers claiming the European Commission presidency non-negotiable," said Mitsotakis.

He said that his party's strategy had been proved correct and effective, and had "shown that a centre-right party can marginalise the far-right and reach out to the centre."

With regard to getting an absolute ND majority in parliament, Mitsotakis called on the party to "avoid quantitative targets" and stick to its pledge to "seek broader parliamentary and political consensus, even if we are a majority," adding that the citizens had placed their trust in ND, not only for its promises to cut taxes and create jobs but "also for a different kind of ethics and authority."

"We will not change strategy, we will remain responsible and moderate," he said.
