"The elections will be held on July 7," government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos reiterated on Wednesday in statements to Alpha radio.

He explained that Alexis Tsipras spoke with the education minister and decided that the university entrance exams should not be disrupted, so elections should be held on July 7. Asked if the government intends to appoint the new leadership of justice when it is time for current justices to retire, he replied: "There is a government right now that retains all its powers and responsibilities. These decisions will be taken by the cabinet."

However, he said that "there is a strong concern on the part of the main opposition that is related to the effort to manipulate Justice. We do not have any concern."

He underlined that the government is not trying to manipulate justice as many preceding governments of the old political system had done.
