Formation of Turkish aircraft entered Athens FIR without submitting flight plans on Wednesday

Two Turkish aircraft flew over the islands of Farmakonissi, Agathonissi and Kouneli on Wednesday without submitting flight plans for the Athens Flight Information Region (FIR).

According to National Defence General Staff, two Turkish F-16s flew over Farmakonissi at 10:08 at an altitude of 27,000 feet. A minute later the two fighter jets flew over Agathonissi and at 10:13 the Turkish formation flew over Kouneli at 25,000 feet.

The Turkish military aircraft were recognised and intercepted by the Greek airforce, in accordance with international law.

On Tuesday, Greek fighter jets recognised and intercepted Turkish military aircraft in two incidents over the islands of Kinaros, Farmakonissi, Lipsous and Arkious in the Aegean Sea.
