Achtsioglou accuses New Democracy of leading Greece to default
NewsroomSYRIZA-Progressive Alliance spokesperson Effie Achtsioglou on Friday accused main opposition New Democracy and its leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis of having a plan that will lead the country to default.
She underlined that for the first time after the crisis, Greece can stand on its own feet as a result of the present government's actions to restructure public finances and take measures for the relief of society.
At the same time, she said, New Democracy and especially its leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis presented a plan based on the same policy mix that made Greece bankrupt in the first place. Namely, a mixture of unilateral tax exemptions in favour of major economic interests, an entrepreneurial class of state-reliant big contractors, unfair competition and labour market impunity.
This attitude was indicative of a policy that penalises those that conscientiously pay their taxes and debts while at the same time promising immunity to transgressors, she stressed.
"We cannot allow this to happen," Achtsioglou noted and added: In SYRIZA's plans, the rules and their respect are guarantees that we are living in a society that respects everyone's rights. Now we can envision a country with growth for all, with respect for rights and control mechanisms at the service of the citizens. SYRIZA's proposal is a step forward, for a self-confident society, with the creation of new jobs with increased wages and enhanced rights, with fairer taxation and a more efficient state, with development for all and security for society."
