Koutsoumbas: Strong KKE the 'best wedge' in bipartisan political game

"The measures the new government will take have already been decided, set in motion and agreed in the memorandums of previous years, especially the third memorandum signed by the SYRIZA government with the other parties," Communist Party of Greece (KKE) leader Dimitris Koutsoumbas said to ANT1 TV on Monday.

Koutsoumbas also noted that the people must support KKE to protect their own interests, as the force that will fight against this policy and the anti-popular measures that are going to arrive by tabling proposed legislation, demanding measures for their relief and struggling for the opening of a different prospect where the people are truly in charge.

"The best wedge in the bipartisan game that has being playing out for many many years in Greece is a strong KKE," he said. He also expressed KKE's concern over the escalation of Turkish provocations and aggressiveness, adding that KKE fears an incident in the Aegean.

"I was surprised by Prime Minister's (Alexis Tsipras) statement, maybe it was a verbal mistake, that such violations of sovereignty rights, if they cross certain lines, will be met with a dynamic response. The issue is that Tsipras, with this wording, is accepting the violations of sovereign rights that have already occurred to date. I want to believe it was a slip of the tongue though, in general, complacency and toleration do not mean cool-headedness."
