Athens municipality takes emergency measures for fires, wind

Newsroom

Athens municipal authorities announced fire prevention measures on Monday due to high temperatures and winds.

Effective Monday evening, public access to Mt. Lycabettus is prohibited after midnight and security patrols and water trucks are increased at the National Gardens, the public parks at Pagrati and Ilisia disricts, as well as at the hills of Philopappou, Strefi and Lambraki. Additional measures will be introduced on Tuesday morning at the Gardens for fear of old trees breaking from the strong winds.

Emergency measures have also been introduced at the children's municipal summer camp facilities at Agios Andreas.

Athens authorities are asking for the public's cooperation, and remind citizens that they can report any relevant activity on the 24hr municipal hotline 1595 and also via the city's mobile platform app Novoville.
