Main opposition New Democracy (ND) leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis criticised Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras for his absence from the European Council summit, while visiting the city of Almyros, Thessaly on Tuesday.

The leader of main opposition promised to immediately reduce taxes and to create new jobs in order to urge people that have left the country to return.

Referring to citizens' security, he repeated that ND will abolish university asylum laws.

He also called upon citizens to avoid complacency and make sure that there are no "lost" votes, while urging those that had voted for other parties to support New Democracy in the upcoming elections.

Finally, he promised an ND government will implement its first measures and a fully costed programme "from the first day after the elections".
