A Greek man, 40, and an Albanian teenager, 17, were taken into custody for incidents on Wednesday night in the Exarchia area of Athens, following a protest.

A group of people protested the release from jail of Epaminondas Korkoneas, a policeman who shot to death Alexis Grigoropoulos, 15, in 2008 during a protest and whose death sparked month-long riots in Athens.

Korkoneas, initially sentenced to life in prison, was served a 13-year jail sentence but was released under the provisions of the new penal code.

During last night's incidents, protesters threw fire bombs and stones at police in the area. The two people appear before a prosecutor.
