PM Mitsotakis: Dublin Treaty 'outdated and extremely problematic'
Newsroom"At the European People's Party (EPP) Summit I dedicated the whole of my speech to stressing the European dimension of the migration-refugee problem," Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Friday during the Hour of the Prime Minister in parliament, replying to Movement for Change (KINAL) leader Fofi Gennimata's question on the migration issue.
"I pointed out, in a compelling manner, the need for Europe to proceed with the revision of the Dublin Treaty, which I described as outdated and extremely problematic" he said.
"The problem is European; it is not a bilateral issue (with Turkey). The country needs a national strategy for managing this very acute problem, given that we don't know whether it will become better or worse and must be prepared for all outcomes. Our policy is different from the policy implemented by the SYRIZA government. Our borders are guarded and will be guarded. The new law will accelerate asylum procedures and returns. The islands are being gradually relieved of the burden with the transfer of migrants and refugees to other parts of the country," Mitsotakis said.
