Varvitsiotis: Closed structures the only way Greece can protect itself against migration flows

Newsroom

Closed migration structures are the only way Greece can shield itself during rising migration flows, said Alternate Foreign Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis in an interview on Thursday with Skai radio.

He particularly referred to the land requisitions, legislated by an act recently, and the creation of closed or controlled pre-departure centres on the islands of the northeastern Aegean, underlining that he recognises the islanders' exhaustion over the issue and their protests against building the centers on their islands but repeated this is the only solution.

Referring to the Greek-Turkish relations, Varvitsiotis said that our European partners recognise that Turkey is a destabilising factor in the region.
