Europe will have to take measures against Turkey "if the situation escalates at Cyprus' expense," said New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Wednesday, interviewed on Star TV.
Mitsotakis added that Turkey must realise it cannot keep violating international treaties, and stressed that he will personally raise the issue during his meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Thursday and also at the next European People's Party meeting.
Speaking about investments and businesses, the main opposition leader said that he expects "investment and improved tax compliance by businesses," and called on them to bring their cash deposits held abroad back to Greek banks, "as there is no systemic risk."
The ND leader said he sees great potential for investments as "we are looking at the spring of the Greek economy," and appeared certain that the minimum monthly wage "will rise to 750 euros in two years' time."
He also spoke of introducing two lower VAT rates (11 pct and 22 pct) and further tax relief in 2020, and of reducing state expenditures. Mitsotakis asserted that "no civil servants will be fired" and committed that current pensions will not be reduced, while lower-wage pensioners would receive a supplementary benefit.
The main opposition leader asked for "a clear mandate" at the upcoming July 7 general elections, noting that if no stand-alone government emerges "the country is in danger of going back to polls," because of the new electoral system going into effect.
"The period of toxicity and division must end," he said, and called on citizens to vote down far-right party Golden Dawn and nationalist party Greek Solution.
