SYRIZA party responsible for Energy and Environment issues Sokratis Famellos met on Tuesday with US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy, Francis Fannon.
According to a party announcement, Fannon underlined the importance of Greece's initiatives in the last year aiming at strengthening the country's energy safety and turning into a pillar of stability in the region.
The two officials said that the Strategic Dialogue with USA, the initiative 3+1 and other diplomatic initiatives were crucial at this context.
The same announcement said that "Fannon thanked Famellos for Greece's initiatives to promote new potentials for regional cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean as well with North Macedonia and other countries of the Balkans".
Famellos underlined that the cooperation in energy can contribute in the regional stability according to the international law. In this context he pointed out the support to Cyprus' right to exploit its hydrocarbon noting that USA and the international community's message against the Turkish illegal actions inside Cyprus and Greece's EEZ should continue to be stable and clear.
Moreover, Famellos underlined the importance of the implementation of Paris Climate Change Agreement and USA's cooperation in the development of Renewable Energy Resources technologies.
