"The first two months of New Democracy's (ND) government were marked by two negative records in the labour market," stated main opposition SYRIZA deputy in charge of labour issues, Effie Achtsioglou, on Wednesday.
The former labour minister noted that "in August the percentage of part-time and seasonal employment in new hirings hit a record number, reaching 57 pct, while in July there was a negative record in layoffs with the loss of 14,691 jobs."
At the same time, Achtsioglou said, the government made layoffs easier by removing the employers' obligation to justify dismissals, it abolished measures protecting workers and is planning to once again abolish collective labour agreements".
Concluding, she noted that "Mitsotakis' promises for 'good jobs' are already contradicted by his government's actions".
