Wearing masks is essential; we must not be complacent, Peloni says
Newsroom"There is a picture of a decline in both hospital admissions and intubation. However, this should not make us complacent," government spokesperson Aristotelia Peloni stressed in a comment about the epidemiological situation in an interview with SKAI TV station on Wednesday.
She agreed that the whole of society became tired of the pandemic restrictions over the winter and warned that this was where the trap lay. "This euphoria, which is logical after so many months of restrictions, must not make us complacent because we are not done with the virus yet," she said, adding that checks will take place at restaurants and anywhere else that authorities think might not observe the measures, the minimum distances, curfews and use of masks.
"We should all wear a mask. We have intensified controls and we will keep intensifying them. The programme of control mechanisms is being restructured. I want to reiterate that we are in a good phase, but we are not done. More freedom means more responsibility," she said.
In the case of epidemiological flare ups, the measures taken in response will be examined, she added.
