Greek Communist Party criticises SYRIZA's reversal of relief measures
NewsroomThe Communist Party of Greece (KKE) on Thursday released a statement criticising SYRIZA's draft legislation for the abolition of austerity measures ahead of the general elections at the same time as the scrapping of some of the positive measures pre-legislated by the SYRIZA government for 2020.
"It is confirmed, once again, that SYRIZA's alleged social sensitivity is a deception," read KKE's statement, and continued by commenting on the government's amendment scrapping a lowering of the tax-free allowance, saying it was "grabbing from the other pocket so as not to affect the surpluses, which are also the result of the constant bleeding of people's income."
The government on Thursday tabled an amendment in parliament that cancels pre-legislated reductions of the tax-free income allowance, due to come into force in 2020. The same amendment, which parliament will put to the vote on Friday, also cancels the positive measures that were due to be taken in the same year.
KKE concluded by saying that Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is "completely aligned with the fiscal discipline of the European Commission."
