Sharp rise in Greek consumers' spending in online stores
NewsroomThe Hellenic Association of Electronic Commerce, in a survey conducted in cooperation with BestPrice and Skroutz price comparison machines, Google and Convert Group's eMarket Intelligence, found a rapid increase in the expenditure of Greek consumers in online stores in recent months.
The survey was conducted between December 30, 2019 and April 5, 2020. The data were gathered from 4,451 e-shops with which Skroutz cooperates, from 2,116 e-shops with which BestPrice cooperates and from millions of Google Maps location data hits, without processing any personal user data. The survey excluded all categories of services (such as airline tickets, music, movies, subscriptions to games) and online super markets.
More specifically, an increase of up to 134 pct per week, compared to the same week of 2019, was observed in consumer spending on products purchased in online stores by Greeks.
According to the survey, hundreds of categories of online purchases spiked in March, such as puzzles (1,654 pct), web cameras (1,256 pct) and exercise mats with (772 pct), compared to previous months.
